Chimnya Ganpati Mandal
Chimnya Ganpati Mandal
Sadashiv Peth
The sparrow-named Ganpati of Sadashiv Peth — an old temple landmark whose mandal stages musical light shows to rival Natu Baug.
Story
The Chimnya Ganpati temple is one of Sadashiv Peth’s oldest landmarks — its origins undocumented, its name a piece of neighbourhood memory: sparrows (chimnya) once flocked here to pick at rice, and the name stuck. The three-foot idol with its left-turned trunk and built-in crown has watched the lanes fill with Ganeshotsav for generations. During the festival, the mandal is known for its grand musical light shows — the old-city counterpart to Natu Baug’s display.
During the festival
