Akhil Navi Peth Hatti Ganpati Mandal

Verified

Sadashiv Peth · Est. 1923

The elephant-mounted Ganesha of Navi Peth — a century-old mandal whose fearless idol and dhol-tasha processions are a Sadashiv Peth institution.

Story

Founded in 1923 by Digambar Balgude and Tukaram Chavan, the Akhil Navi Peth Hatti Ganpati Mandal takes its name from its unmistakable idol: Lord Ganesha seated on an elephant, fearlessly slaying a tiger. For a century the mandal has used its famous dekhavas to carry social-reform messages, and its first-day and final-day processions — dhol-tasha pathak in the lead — are a treat for anyone on the Navi Peth stretch. The mandal marked 125 years with a Ganesh Mahal recreation.

During the festival

Aagman and visarjan processions led by dhol-tasha pathaks are the highlights.

Visit

Walk from Sadashiv Peth or the Laxmi Road extension; lanes are narrow but lively.
