Hirabaug Mitra Mandal
VerifiedTilak Road
The Tilak Road mandal at historic Hirabaug chowk — famous for its shows, and equally for skipping one entirely to give its funds to disaster relief.
Story
Hirabaug Mitra Mandal celebrates at the chowk named for the 1768-era Hirabaug, whose town hall was a nerve centre of the nationalist movement. The mandal’s dekhavas draw waiting crowds each year — but its most remembered gesture came in 2014, when it cancelled its celebration outright and donated the collected funds to survivors of the Malin landslide, showing only a water-conservation presentation instead. Festival spectacle with a conscience, in the Tilak Road tradition.
