Nimbalkar Talim Mandal
VerifiedSadashiv Peth · Est. 1920
The mandal that gave Ganeshotsav its concert stage — a century of classical music at a Sadashiv Peth chowk where Bhimsen Joshi and Bismillah Khan once performed.
Story
Established in 1920, Nimbalkar Talim Mandal built its reputation not on decoration but on culture. Through the 1940s–60s its chowk hosted powadas, dramas, and above all classical music: Hirabai Badodekar, Saraswati Rane, Jyotsna Bhole, Chhota Gandharva, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi — and in its golden-jubilee year of 1969, Ustad Bismillah Khan playing shehnai in the open square. The mandal still stages cultural programmes and live plays alongside its religious and historical dekhavas, keeping the utsav’s prabodhan tradition alive.
During the festival
Centenary-plus mandal; cultural programmes are the signature.
