Story

Dagdusheth Halwai, a sweetmaker, and his wife Laxmibai established this Ganpati in 1893 after losing their son to plague — advised by their guru to worship Ganesha and Datta as their own children. What began as personal devotion grew into the most famous Ganesh temple in Pune, drawing over a lakh visitors daily during the festival. The gold-adorned idol, the Ganpati Bhavan, the sheer scale of darshan — this is where many newcomers first feel the weight of Pune’s devotion. It sits outside the Manache sequence but inside every Punekar’s map of the festival.

During the festival

134th Ganeshotsav (2026): Prem Mandir dekhava with a welcome arch at Budhwar Chowk. Trust patrika — aagman 8:30 AM, pranpratishtha 11:11 AM, lighting 7:00 PM on 14 Sep; visarjan miravnuk 4:00 PM on 25 Sep. Chaturthi aagman confirmed: Mayur rath with thousands of devotees; Prem Mandir replica live for darshan.

Visit

Extremely crowded on Chaturthi and weekends — often the longest queue on any walking circuit. Prefer metro to Kasba Peth / PMC / Deccan, then walk; use Mandai mainly for the return. Avoid driving into Budhwar Peth.

Long queues are normal — darshan management is organised but patience is required. If the queue is severe, finish other mandals first and return later.

No. Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati is not one of the five Manache mandals. While it is one of Pune's most famous and visited Ganpati mandals, the Manache honour sequence predates Dagdusheth.
What is the best time to visit Dagdusheth?
Dagdusheth is open year-round, not just during Ganeshotsav. Early morning (before 8 AM) has shorter queues. During the festival, expect long waits at all hours — peak evenings can have 2–3 hour queues.
Can I combine Dagdusheth with the Manache walk?
Yes. Dagdusheth is located in the old city near Mandai, close to the Manache route. Many visitors add Dagdusheth before or after completing the five Manache mandals.
