Budhwar Peth · Est. 1892

The second of the three original sarvajanik Ganpatis of 1892 — installed at Ganpatrao Ghotawadekar’s home in the festival’s founding year.

Story

When Pune decided to take Ganeshotsav public in 1892, three idols were installed: at Bhau Rangari’s wada, at Sardar Khasgiwale’s home, and at Ganpatrao Ghotawadekar’s place. All three were immersed together in a grand procession that impressed Lokmanya Tilak enough to champion the festival in Kesari the following year. The Ghotawadekar Ganpati carries that founding legacy quietly — a heritage mandal for visitors who want the full 1892 story, not just its most famous chapter.
