Pune’s ‘Navsacha Ganpati’ — the wish-fulfilling Ganesha at Ganpati Chowk, named for martyr Babu Genu and famous for spectacular temple-replica decorations.
Story
Established in 1970 and named after Babu Genu Said, the mill worker who was martyred opposing British trade in 1930, this mandal earned its beloved name — Navsacha Ganpati, the Ganpati of fulfilled vows — when workers pledged to the deity that the idol be completed after its sculptor Anantrao Waikar passed away mid-work. The idol was finished, and the name stayed. For two decades its dekhavas were designed by art director Nitin Desai; recreations of the Mysore Palace, Char Dham, and India’s great temples draw some of the densest crowds outside Dagdusheth.

Grand temple-replica dekhava every year — among the most photographed pandals in Pune.
Visit
Between Tulshibaug and Dagdusheth — a natural stop on the Budhwar Peth darshan walk. Evening light displays are the highlight.
Devotees toss coins into the Ichapurti Kalash and make a wish.
